Branding

Your logo is not your brand

When people think of a brand, they often picture a logo. While a logo is an important visual element, it is just one small piece of a much larger puzzle. A logo alone does not make a brand. To truly understand what a brand is, it’s essential to look below the surface.

What is the role of a logo?

A logo is a visual identifier. It’s a recognisable mark that represents a business and helps it to stand out in the marketplace. A well-designed logo can convey professionalism, values, and even evoke emotions. The logo is on the surface; the brand is what lies beneath the surface

What truly defines a brand?

A brand is the overall perception people have of a company. It’s shaped by every interaction, experience, and message associated with the company.

What does a brand encompass?

  1. Values: The principles and beliefs that guide a company’s actions.
  2. Customer experience: How customers feel when they interact with the company, its products, and services.
  3. Reputation: The trust and credibility the company has built over time.
  4. Promise: The commitment the company makes to its customers.
  5. Story: The narrative that connects the company’s mission to its audience.

A logo might symbolise these elements, but it cannot replace them. Without a firm foundation of values, consistent communication, and positive customer experiences, a logo is simply a design.

The bigger picture…

Building a brand requires much more than creating a memorable logo. It involves crafting a clear message, delivering on promises, and consistently engaging with customers. It’s about creating a lasting impression that goes beyond visuals and resonates on a deeper level.

In short, while a logo is a valuable asset, it’s not what defines a brand. A brand is the sum of all experiences, perceptions, and values associated with a company. Investing in these areas will build a brand that stands the test of time - logo or not.
